Tips to Ensure a Smooth Pet Boarding Experience

Whether you are going on a family vacation or need to leave town for a work meeting, you may be looking for a cat boarding facility for your pet. This may take some time as you'll want to find a facility you can trust. Placing your cat in the care of a boarding facility will give you the peace of mind you are looking for while you are gone. At Companion Animal Hospital, our team ensures your pet is safe at all times and makes sure they feel at home.

Below are some tips on how to prepare for a smooth experience:

Food

Since an abrupt change in your cat's diet can cause gastrointestinal problems, it's important to remember to bring your cat's food while boarding them. Let the staff know how much should be fed at each meal. If you prepare it a certain way, give those instructions to the staff to prevent GI distress. This is especially important if your cat is on a special diet. Make sure you pack enough food and include treats as this may be a helpful tool to use to keep your cat stress-free around new people.

Medical Records

When you are getting things ready for cat boarding, make sure you include your vet's contact information if the boarding facility is not your cat's vet. It's also a good idea to bring your cat's records and talk to the staff about your medical preferences and any medication that your cat should be taken while boarding.

Contact Info

While the chances are slim, if there were to be an incident where the cat boarding staff would need to contact someone, you would be the first in line. If you know that you will not be near the phone, leave the contact information of a trusted friend or family member who can make decisions on your behalf.
