Here's some important Halloween tips for your pets

from Companion Animal Hospital for a safe

and happy holiday!

It is already that time of year again!

Lots of Trick or Treaters means lots of candy!

Here are a few tips provided by the ASPCA to keep your pets safe this time of year:

bullet

Do not leave your pet outside in your yard on Halloween: There are plenty of stories of vicious people who have teased, injured, stolen, and even killed animals on this night.

bullet

Candy is not for pets! Keep candy and treats out of reach of your pets. Chocolate is toxic to many animals; tin foil and plastic wrappings can be dangerous if swallowed.

bullet

Don’t dress your pet in a costume unless you are sure he loves it. This actually causes stress for the animal.

bullet

If you do dress your pet in a costume, make sure it is not constricting, annoying or unsafe. Be careful not to obstruct your pet’s vision. Even the sweetest dog can be scared or snappy when they cannot see around them.

bullet

Keep your pet in a separate room during trick or treat visiting hours or consider boarding them for the night; too many strangers dressed in strange garb can be scary for your pet.

bullet

If you are unable to confine your pet, take precautions so he doesn’t dart out through an open door.

While this can be a fun time for people and pets alike, remember that your pets are depending on you to keep them safe from the more dangerous goblins and ghouls that this holiday brings.

Have a safe and happy Halloween!
