We Remember "Rosie" Bond

Rosie was severely injured at 10 months old and came to us as a rescue when I was a technician.  She had been attacked by a dog and had multiple lacerations all over her body, a broken jaw, and injuries to her leg and tail.  She ended up losing her left rear leg and most of her tail due to the severity of her injuries.  Even that day she first came into the clinic, Rosie was purring the loudest purr we had ever heard, and she kept that little motor going throughout her entire life!  She probably used up a lot of her lives that day, but she lived another 16 years with us.  Rosie was an amazingly sweet cat, and even with three legs loved to play with our other cats.  Although she wasn’t quite as fast, she compensated with her right hook.  Ironically, her favorite toy was a little Kitty Hoots stuffed dog she had for most of her life, and she would carry it around and just beat the heck out of it.  Unfortunately it was cancer that took her from us in the end, but we think she will have four legs in heaven. She will really be missed.

Rosie belonged to our own Robin.  We thank her for sharing this beautiful memorial tribute.

We Remember Sadie Mae

I got a call at 10:30 one night from the police, asking me to come get Sadie Mae and the son of my friend (who was Sadie's "owner") who had tried to take her own life. The good news is that the son was taken in by a closer and more qualified friend of the family and after 3 months in a coma, my friend pulled through and now lives a happy, healthy and productive life.

The sad news was that due to the surrounding circumstances, my friend no longer wanted Sadie and was going to place her in a shelter or the Humane Society. I couldn't let that happen, so Sadie Mae joined our little family and became my baby girl.

She was sweet, gentle, shy and at first, very timid, but over time, she warmed up and became a very special part of our lives.  Sadie was healthy, as far as I knew, until routine screening at the vet, for a teeth cleaning, revealed she had diabetes. With a special diet and lots of loving care, we were able to share in Sadie's relatively healthy remaining 10 months. It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye, but we believe we will see you again, Sadie Mae. Thank you for sharing your life and love with us. You made every day a better day! We miss you baby girl!!!  ~your loving family.

We Remember Zoe

ZOE: July 15, 1998 - July 18, 2009

Zoe was born on July 15, 1998. When my family and I went to pick her up, she was just a puppy. She was so small she could fit right in my two hands. She grew up with us and became a member of our family very quickly. She was a very good friend to our 8 year old schnauzer, Louie.

Zoe was a great dog. She was diagnosed with cancer in February 2009. She went through treatments for about 5 months, and the cancer began to spread. We had to put her to rest at age 11, on July 18, 2009.

R.I.P. ZOE! WE LOVE YOU!

We Remember Funny

January 21, 1994 – May 17, 2009

Funny had frequent flier miles at Companion Animal Hospital!  After going through five surgeries with Dr. Craig Ritchie and the crew at Companion, Funny earned the distinction of being my $15,000 dollar dog!  Funny’s surgeries included two cranial cruciate TLPO surgeries, cancer surgery, and two eye surgeries.   I would do it all again.  The care she received at Companion helped Funny to be a true ambassador for the American Pit Terrier by participating in numerous fairs, symposiums, school assembles, and educational seminars geared toward public education and teaching children about responsible dog ownership.  Funny performed a series of tricks and maneuvers in front of thousands of people, often on stage in front of hundreds.

Her black and white coloring gave her a distinct advantage with children who associated her markings with Walt Disney’s 101 Dalmatians.  NOT!  Despite her two knee surgeries, Funny became the oldest dog to earn her Weight Pull championship with the United Kennel Club at 11 years and 11 months old!  Funny graced a number of lives in her 15 ½ years and will be sorely missed.  I cannot thank Dr. Ritchie enough for ensuring that Funny had the quality of life that she deserved.  Funny passed away quietly on May 17, 2009 in her sleep.

We Remember Kenya

I found Kenya at a pound in Santa Monica, CA in 1992. (My friend wanted me to go with him to the pound to get himself a dog. He walked out with nothing and I walked out with Kenya). She was already about 1-1 ½ yrs old at the time. She went everywhere with me! Then we moved to NYC where she went to work with me everyday, Central Park every weekend!  Everyone in the immediate Manhattan area knew her and her name. She was the sweetest dog I have ever had! Wouldn’t hurt a cat! I have 2 cats she hung out with all the time (who are also both 17 yrs old now). She then moved again, 8 years ago, with me to Seattle where she lived out the rest of her life.

This was the hardest thing in the world for me to decide on and go through but I think she will rest in peace not having to worry about laying there watching me and not always being able to get up on her own or messing in her bed. I will miss her tremendously because she was with me through thick and thin and for so many years. I can't believe she is gone... L

We Remember Sonny

1989 ? ~ February 1, 2008

Sonny (aka Mr. T ) came to us as a stray many years ago, and never again strayed from our lives.  He had the most amazing personality!  We sometimes called him a "cat-shaped dog".  If the real dog was not around,  Mr. T would follow us everywhere and beg for treats if I happened to be in the kitchen.

We never knew exactly how old he was but, thankfully he lived to a ripe old age.  Sonny was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. He'll be in our hearts always.  Rest in peace sweet boy.

Our thanks to Emilee for Sonny's Memorial Tribute

We Remember Tuffer

1/9/2002 -11/15/2007

We first met Tuffer as a five week old puppy with his nine siblings. Even then he was very people-centric, waiting at our feet for attention when all his siblings were returning to their crate for a nap. After we brought him home, we saw him grow from a lovable pup to a beautiful adult who looked and acted like a giant teddy bear.

People stopped us on the street to ask about him, and everywhere he went people literally fell in love with him. He was with us just five short years when cancer claimed him. His loss is devastating and leaves a hole in our lives that can never be filled, but we remember him with love and joy for the happiness he brought to our lives. Goodbye Tuffer, we miss you. We'll see you at the Rainbow Bridge.
